Frequently Asked Questions or FAQs

Why should I send my camper to CSM?

Camp Staunton Meadows offers campers a wonderful opportunity to experience summer camp at its finest. We have one and two-week sessions that allow more flexibility for increasingly hectic summer schedules. Both returning and first-time campers choose from a range of activities that are fun, creative, educational, and adventuresome. Come to CSM and have the TIME OF YOUR LIFE!

Where will my camper live?

Campers live in cabins with other campers of approximately the same age and grade along with two counselors. There are a total of 12 cabins, each named after local trees. Cabin sizes range from 8 to 12 campers with the youngest campers having smaller cabin group size. All girls' and the youngest boys' cabins have facilities. The rest of the boys' cabins share a large bathhouse. Campers sleep in bunk beds.

Can my camper be in the same cabin as his/her friends or relatives?

Campers can request to bunk with friends or relatives of the same age and/or grade by listing that person or persons on the camper application form. We do our best to honor those requests that are made by both parties.

How important is the Health Form and Physical?

The health form and copy of a current physical IS REQUIRED FOR ALL CAMPERS. In order to provide the best possible care for your camper, these forms must be completed and returned to camp before the session begins. The physical must have been done within a year of camp and signed by the physician or nurse practitioner.

What if my camper takes medications or vitamins?

We have a nurse who lives at camp for the duration of each session who distributes ALL medications including vitamins, as well as attends to any injuries or accidents. Every camper checks in with the nurse at our health center on opening day to go over any health issues, special needs or conditions. If your camper has medications or vitamins, please bring them with clearly labeled directions and doses.

Where do your counselors come from and what are your screening/interviewing procedures?

Most of our staff members are college students. Their love of working with young people make them the perfect camp counselors. Many of them were once campers here and choose to return to be counselors. They give continuity to the program and offer others the same great experience they had at CSM. After applying, staff members are screened and interviewed by a member of our administration. International staff members are hired through a small group of professional services that have a long-standing relationship with CSM and whose screening procedures are in-depth. Our staff selection is the most critical element of providing campers and their families a positive camp experience. We work hard to build the best team possible.

Can a two-week session be split into separate weeks?

We discourage changing scheduled session dates as this breaks down the intricate dynamics of cabin life for all campers involved. Two-week sessions have a different schedule of events than a one-week session including opening day orientation and closing ceremonies. We try to accommodate our camp families by creating a schedule of sessions that reflects the interest of the majority of returning campers as well as the local school calendars.

What if my camper wants to attend for more than two weeks?

We have a number of campers who "stay over" each session. These campers participate in a special overnight trip that leaves the closing day of the previous session and returns after orientation of the next session. In this way, they do not repeat the orientation to camp and instead have a fun adventure. Campers can also choose to go home on closing day (Saturday) and return to camp the following day for their next session. Please see the rate schedule page for more info.

Do you offer scholarships?

We are in the process of developing a Campership Fund to help defray the cost of camp for deserving families. Please call us if you would like to donate to this fund or if you are interested in finding out more information for your camper.
