A message to our CSM Family:

Dear Friends of Camp Staunton Meadows,

You may have wondered about the silence at this end and why you have not gotten your 2008 CSM applications. The truth is we had hoped never to have to write you this letter. But it has become clear to us that we cannot continue to operate CSM at a distance (none of us lives in the area) and so we must close the camp. We have considered a number of alternatives for keeping CSM running, but none seems to work. For those of you who had planned to return next summer (and many of you have been e-mailing and calling), we hope this announcement will give you plenty of time to enroll in another camp.

Our father John I. Crews started CSM almost thirty years ago. For the last four years, the three of us, his children, have tried to keep alive his vision that CSM would be a place for fun, friendship, and personal growth in what we think is the most beautiful place on earth. Last summer we applied for and received our American Camping Association (ACA) accreditation. Enrollment is surging. The facilities are in great shape and we had lots of plans for future CSM summers. So it is especially difficult for us to make this decision. We will miss your skit nights, campfires, dances, trail rides, hayrides, canoe trips, lake nights, and tie dye shirts. But most of all, we will miss YOU! You are part of our lives as much as you are part of this special place.

Please stay in touch with us and with each other. Let us know how you are doing. Our father would love to get your letters. At age 92, you may not get a written reply from him, but you should know that his greatest pleasure is reading the notes you have sent him over the years and looking at photos of you in action at CSM.
